Patrick Nofield, Chairman & Co-Founder

As Chairman & Co-Founder of Escape Lodging Company, Patrick Nofield is responsible for overall vision & direction, Investor relations and opportunity development.

His mentor, Steve Martin, impressed upon him early in his career: “Take care of people and the money will take care of itself, we’re here to serve! The money is a report card on how well we’re serving.”

Nofield is convinced that long-term profitability is gained through consistent development of individual employees with a sincere “spirit of hospitality.”

He takes seriously his commitment to promulgating our culture and core values by mentoring and supporting key managers to continually improve and exceed guest expectations, as well as establishing the company’s direction for future endeavors, aligned with the vision of late co-founding partner, Tom Drumheller.

Patrick and his wife Lisa enjoy their time with daughters, Chelsea, Brianna, Amber, and Desiree; at the beach, in the mountains, or in the desert.

Tom Drumheller CEO in absentia

Along with business partner Patrick Nofield, Tom Drumheller set in motion the practices and philosophies that continue to guide and inform the direction of Escape Lodging Company – the business they created together – on a daily basis. This is why he will remain our CEO, in absentia.

After a very brief illness, Tom passed away in 2017, yet his influence is unmistakably present today and our culture is infused with the values, integrity, and endless good humor that he instilled with unfailing consistency.

Though most of Drumheller’s day-to-day responsibilities have been absorbed by Nofield, others are now being maintained, developed, and grown by many of Tom’s own proteges, mentored for years within our company. Recognizing the intangible was a strong suit of Tom’s, especially when it came to fostering relationships and developing key employees. It was a talent for which we are forever grateful, as the potential he mentored made possible the necessary transitions after his passing.

His presence, wit, wisdom, humility, and grace are missed by the team of Escape Lodging each and every day, but his legacy remains. He prepared us well to understand his vision and his passion for serving others, so that we might represent him and maintain and grow what he put into motion. Escape Lodging’s continued success is in his honor.

Tom is survived by wife Christy, daughter Britney, and daughter and son-in-law Brook and Cory Burnett, and his two treasured grandsons Ethan and Kael. The Drumheller family will forever be part of the Escape Lodging family.

Ebb-Tide Oceanfront Inn Toy Drive

Posted by & filed under The Escape Hatch.

At Escape Lodging, hospitality means being part of the communities we call home. Beyond welcoming guests, our teams show up as neighbors—supporting local organizations, schools, shelters, and families across Oregon. Every Escape Lodging property is actively involved in community support, and these efforts evolve each year based on local needs.

Below are just a few examples of how our teams give back.

Helping Pets Find Comfort and Care

For years, Inn at Cannon Beach and Cousins Country Inn have hosted annual pet food and supply drives benefiting local shelters. Guests who participate are thanked with waived pet fees, turning a small gesture into a long-standing tradition guests and team members look forward to each year.

This year, Inn at Cannon Beach also launched an elder care drive to support local seniors—an effort that’s already been warmly embraced and will continue to grow.

Brightening the Holidays for Local Families

Each fall, Ebb-Tide Oceanfront Inn and Hi-Tide Oceanfront Inn host toy drives supporting Clatsop County families during the holiday season. What began simply has grown through the generosity of locals, returning guests, and team members.

Hi-Tide Oceanfront Inn also coordinates an annual school supply drive for a local elementary school, helping students start the year prepared and confident.

These stories offer just a snapshot of the care our teams show year-round. From drives and volunteer efforts to everyday acts of kindness, community support is woven into daily life at every Escape Lodging property—and we’re grateful to be part of the communities we serve.

Manzanita has always been one of Oregon’s most peaceful coastal gems — a place where the waves roll in slow and the sunsets stretch long across the horizon. Today, we’re thrilled to share that a beloved oceanfront property here is beginning its next chapter — and we’re honored to be a part of it.

As of October 10, 2025, the Sunset Surf Motel has joined the Escape Lodging family — and with it comes a new name, a new look, and a renewed sense of purpose. When the doors reopen in May 2026, guests will be welcomed to the Manzanita Oceanfront Inn.

This winter, the property will undergo a complete refresh of all guest rooms and common spaces, designed to reflect the natural beauty and easygoing charm of Manzanita. The updates will bring warm coastal tones, modern comforts, and locally inspired touches, creating a space that feels both new and timeless.

“Our family is genuinely excited to be part of the Manzanita community,” shares Lisa Nofield of Escape Lodging. “We fell in love with this town’s incredible warmth and character, and we’re honored to invest in its future while preserving what makes it so special. The Manzanita Oceanfront Inn will celebrate that same welcoming spirit that guests have cherished for generations.”

Located just steps from the sand with sweeping views of the Pacific, the Manzanita Oceanfront Inn will continue to offer the charm of a classic Oregon beach stay — now paired with Escape Lodgings’ signature hospitality and attention to detail.

We can’t wait to welcome guests — both returning and new — when the Inn reopens in May 2026. Until then, follow along as we bring this exciting transformation to life and celebrate the heart of a community we’re proud to now call home.
